Starting Your php Bay Site Build
September 22, 2008 by Ben
Hi everyone. Its been a while now since I had the chance to post, I have been busy getting a few of my sites back up and running after a few internet problems as well as converting some of my non earning BANS sites over to phpbay and blogs, so its been a busy time.
Over the next week or so I am going to cover a start to finish guide on getting a phpbay site up and running from finding a niche to building the site and starting to get some traffic, I will be using a new site I am in the middle of building as an example, the site is BestPriceBeads.com. Many of you may have seen or read the start to finish tutorial on Eureka Diary but since the site which resulted from that tutorial was shut down I thought it would be nice for you to have one to see for yourself and to work from.
The set of tutorial posts will guide you towards setting up an ecommerce style phpbay site but if you are looking to set up more of a blog style phpbay site then Melissa Eaton has a tutorial series running at the moment which will show you how to do just that, see it here. During the step by step guide I will also be providing some versions of the template used to build BestPriceBeads.com in different colors with the unwanted parts already stripped out to make your life a little easier. The main parts of the tutorial will include the following:
1) Choosing a niche & doing some research
2) Registering your domain name, getting some hosting
3) Installing wordpress
4) Installing and configuring phpbay
5) Building an installing your new site template
6) Adding content and listings to your site
7) Getting some backlinks
The course of these posts may change slightly but this is the plan I have in my head at the moment so we will see how it pans out.
Ill start with the first post tomorrow.

Looks great, ill be watching this one, can’t wait to get started.
Hey John
Yes i’m hoping it will be good, it will be helpful if you like the more ecommerece based site but as I say if you want to build a blog style site Melissa Eaton is covering it really well in her blog.
Look forward to your future comments.
Ben
Looking forward to this. Backlinks section will be of much interest to me. I do the basics but hope to learn some new things.
Hi Jay
Well I hope I can teach you something new, that’s my aim anyway, i’m hoping to get a guest post or two on the backlinks post so I hope its worth the wait.
Thanks for reading.
All the best
Ben
Hey Ben,

Thanks! Dan

Ben
Nice bead site. Which template are you using?
I also notice that in the footer if says…
© 2008 YourDomainName.comBest Price Beads
You might want to check that out.
Hi Tim
Thank you and thanks for pointing that out in the footer, I will need to get that sorted.
The template is the Limou Orange Theme by Bob, but I have actually removed a lot of code from it to make it less like a blog and more like a store. I have released the modified template for free to all blog readers, you can get it here:
